Als wir von Carravals kamen,
da hatten wir die Pest an Bord.
In Sackleinwand und ohne Namen
mit Harmonika-Akkord
musste einer nach dem andern
in das tiefe Meer abwandern.
Ahoi! Ahoi!

Ringsum die See war glatt wie Öl,
alle Segel hingen schlapp.
Wir hörten Peter Piers Gegröhl:
Nützt auf See ein Wanderstab?
Freund Hein wird den Weg schon weisen,
wenn du mußt vom Schiffe reisen.
Ahoi! Ahoi!

Der brave Peter sprang von Bord.
Wir lasen ihm ein Gotteswort
und waren dann auch drum erpicht.
Die Pest mit Peter uns verließ,
der Wind in alle Segel blies.
Am Horizont kam (Hammerhai ???) in Sicht.
Ahoi, Kameraden!
Ahoi, Kameraden!


When we returned from Carravals
we had the plague aboard.
Dressed in sack cloth and nameless,
to the sound of a mouth-organ,
one after the other
had to depart into the deep sea.
Ahoi ahoi

Around us the sea was as smooth as oil,
and the sails were dropping.
We listened to Peter Piers bellowing:
What use is a walking stick on the sea?
Friend Hein will show us the way,
when you have leave the ship.
Ahoi Ahoi

The good Peter jumped off the ship.
We read him a sermon
and were inclined to do the same.
The plague left us with Peter,
the wind blew into our sails.
On the horizon we sighted ??? .
Ahoi comrades, ahoi comrades
