Just a quick demo of MythTV running on an EeePC 701 with Ubuntu Linux 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and the array.org custom kernel. The video is live TV streaming from my MythTV server over my bog-standard 802.11g wireless LAN.

  • @Subsanek Unfortunately XFCE is not as light as it was intended to be. There are better lightweight options.

  • @trufiend138 Incorrect. The CPU is fine. What it needs is hardware acceleration for video decoding. But that's not the point of this video. The point was that the very under-specced EeePC 701 could actually be used to watch TV with. Of course today you wouldn't bother with the 701 given the far better options now available for a comparatively low price.

  • @hyraxaus what that thing needs is a upgraded CPU..ALL netbooks do...pos

  • Do not tell people, install xfce!

  • HAD a touch screen. :) Since shooting this video I cracked it after an accidental drop and have since removed it. The 701 is now significantly lighter without the touch screen (it is a sheet of glass after all), so I've decided to keep using it that way instead. My other mods still work though (internally mounted USB hub, internally mounted USB 8GB flash stick for Home and internally mounted USB Bluetooth dongle).

  • it has touch screen?
