  • This song is not about war, drugs or women. Leonard sometimes feels guilty for being a Jew and understanding/connecting with the story of Jesus. Yet, he is not a Christian, because they are not Christ like. This song is a manifestation of those feelings. IMDO!

  • Should have read "Dessert Storm" sorry, thick finger syndrome !!

  • Why the pics from "Desert " when it was written during, or just after Vietnam ! by a master wordsmith. You go to was..you step into an avalanche............crunch !

  • Wow!! 0 dislikes! Yeah.. a genial poem with magnific music. I have listened this song many times, and I don't tire... I love it!

  • @zenitius You're stupidity is mind-boggling. I would love to see you survive for 5 minutes with those soldiers you prejudiced piece of garbage.

  • oh i thought this was about the soul and the un-educated amphibian within and the conflict between the the two, the drugs can help solve these conflicts, or at least ease the tension! or am i trippin?

  • Drugs? In all the years I've been listening to this song, I never thought of that, but I see what you mean. It makes sense.

I always thought it was the devil talking, especially lines like:

You strike my side by accident as you go down for your gold

    and

You say you've gone away from me but I can feel you when you breathe

and others. But I think drugs is more consistent.

  • One of my favorites! Thank you

  • astonishing!!
