"Everyday" was written by Buddy Holly and Norman Petty and originally released in the fall of 1957 as the B-side to what would become one of Buddy's biggest selling singles, "Peggy Sue". The simplicity of the song is striking and added much to its appeal. Buddy is playing acoustic guitar and performing the vocals, Jerry Allison is slapping his hands on his lap for percussion, and Joe B. Mauldin is playing bass. Norman Petty's wife, Vi, is playing a keyboard instrument called a celeste which is typically used in classical pieces like "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker". Buddy Holly died tragically in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959 along with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper.
