The Performance Yachts PY-100, is one of a series of yachts currently launched, in build or at various design stages. All the vessels in the range, which currently spans 90 to 125 feet, are designed by Dixon Yacht Design.
The PY-100, as with all the yachts in the Performance range, is finished to the clients' own detailed individual requirements, and provides impressive high end cruising performance with five-star luxury below decks.
The PY 100 is a low-profile, centre cockpit, fast luxury cruising yacht, built using the latest high-tech composite construction technology. Dixon Yacht Designs' naval architects have created a fast sleek hull shape which, at the same time, maintains superyacht volume proportions. The hull is formed in a foam core sandwich construction, with an inner skin of carbon fibre and an outer skin of Kevlar to provide even more strength and durability. Keel options include the lifting keel fitted to PY-100 #01 'Liara', which allows her to access shallower waters normally inaccessible to yachts of her size.
The yachts sail power is provided by her tall 39-metre carbon fibre mast and ultra-light PBO shrouds and forestay from Southern Spars. It is a low weight solution which allows for a very high sail area/displacement ratio, while an integrated bowsprit ensures maximum efficiency from the asymmetric spinnakers and future proofs the yacht's sail plan; the power is harnessed by Harken's latest deck gear and winches making for greater speed and ease of operation, with enhanced safety features.
Below decks the volume of the interior is immediately apparent in the particularly spacious saloon which has more space than most other yachts of similar size. It includes separate lounge and dining areas, with seating around the table for up to eight.
The sleeping accommodation throughout the yacht is as commodious as the living spaces.
The master stateroom includes 2/3 berths - a queen-size double and a large single - while the two guest cabins provide a further 4/6 berths. The two crew cabins provide 4 berths. All cabins are en-suite.
Comfort levels throughout the yacht are enhanced still further by the inclusion of climate control, which includes forced air ventilation as well as air conditioning; background noise levels are minimized by the positioning of the compressors in the sound proofed engine room; The multimedia entertainment system provides facilities normally reserved for top quality hotel rooms, with DVD movies, CD music, downloaded MP3 and iPOD music, photographs and recorded TV shows available in any room at any time.
The galley is very spacious and carefully designed to be extremely functional and hard wearing with many built-in safety features.
It is fully equipped, including a 420-litre fridge and 150-litre freezer with a second 150-litre freezer installed in the bilge. The cockpit seating and dining table house further concealed cockpit fridges.
Weight saving, but again with built in strength, was as important in the construction of the interior as the hull and deck; as a result considerable use has been made throughout of Nomex core with veneers applied over.
To summarise, the Performance Yachts PY-100 is an immensely strong, but relatively light, fast cruising yacht, which also has excellent racing potential for Superyacht Cups and other events. Unlike many other so called cruiser racers however, she is designed to offer exceptional comfort to owner, guests and crew.
In the UK's prestigious 'Round the Island Race' PY-100 #01 'Liara' was the second monohull over the line only 10 minutes behind 'ICAP Leopard', a bare bones, no comfort, out and out racing yacht; on handicap the difference should have been nearer to two hours.
Second time out in the Cowes - St Malo race, 'Liara' took line honours and won her class, the 'Super Zero', on corrected time by 24 minutes.
With a Performance Yachts PY-100 like 'Liara', the owner can be certain that, even if he never wants to race, the yacht will still be moving significantly faster under sail, particularly in light airs, than most other sailing yachts and, if he does want to race, he has a potential winner to enjoy!
