Using the Processing environment for programming in Java, and Max/MSP for granular synthesis and audio processing, this system captures the movements of a dancers to produce interactive visual and sonic elements. It is programmed to 'see red,' so due to continuously changing parameters, it can sometimes pick up the red it draws from the projector, essentially creating feedback. The result is a rich 'mixed reality' environment in which the dancer can interact with with the digital elements of sound and light in a very physical way.
Hunter McCurry of Oberlin Conservatory's TIMARA department, performed this piece as part of his recital on Monday May 4, 2009 at the 'SCO in Oberlin, OH.
