The Cosby Show was and still is one of the greatest sitcoms in television history. It ran for 8 seasons from 1984-1992.

In this episode:
Cliff tells Pam that he will refer her to a gynecologist if she gets permission from her mother. Clair has a talk with Pam. She tells her that if she elects not to have sex, a good man will respect her decision. Charmaine adds that she should not sacrifice her beliefs just to hold on to a guy.

People (like me) get bothered by generalizing because a group of people is lumped together by past experiences.

It means that the only time someone will get offended by something spoken generally is if they're guilty of being the said insult themselves. :)
