The Godfather of Soul? Oh yea, easy to see & hear why. No profanity? Not even the "B" word. Wow. Back when we sang about loving women instead of songs about misusing & abusing them. REAL talent on display. Long live James Brown.! !

Man, the part after the break in Payback, at about 3:55 when that super-heavy funk guitar comes in, and the way they build it up.......... I would've gone totally out of my mind, when I was there.

I think MUSICALLY this period is greater than '69 to '73, although I'm still waiting for that ONE show filmed live in concert from the earlier time. Alot screaming on the SOUL POWER DVD but I find JB was greatly toned down by 1974-75.

Between 1959-1975, I really can't say were his greatest years musically, because each year offered something great, and the style of music from '59 obviously bears no relation whatever to his music of '75!
