My vermicompost bin has gone sour. I added to much food a couple days ago and the worms have all retreated to the lower levels. Here is what I did to fix the problem.

  • I disagree with the product you are using to fix your sour bedding. Processed products like hydrated lime should never be used. Instead, products made from powered limestone or chalk sold as agricultural or garden lime should be used. Processed limes may burn your worms or heat the bedding if you are not very careful.

  • You can also try adding more paper, banana peels and crushed eggshells

  • This appears to be my problem. Thanks.

    Note that some Lime has additives so you have to get the right kind.
