I saw this movie as a child. I enjoyed it. However, portraying the happy slave/master relationship is distasteful and untrue.

@JennaQuits I think the issue is that it portrays a myth of happy slave/master relationships. But there must have been people who were nice to there slaves. It still doesn't make slavery right.

@TheFlicker98 Everything in the movie is racist. Also, the lead actor, James Baskett, wasn't even allowed to attend the film's premier cuz he was a nigger.

@tramballe12 I Know That. There's Nothing Racist About This Film. It's True The Story Takes Place After The Civil War But That's Not The Point.

@johnnynl I agree it's heartwarming but you dont believe this is racist? Did you know they didn't even allow the actor who played uncle remus to the opening of the movie? This movie was terribly racist, but that doesnt mean its not enjoyable. I mean its a kid's cartoon movie that alot of people grew up on.

If nothing else, I'd like to find a copy to see in full, since it was released thirty years before I was born
I think this a excellent movie but however as most people know that it is banned in the U.S. There is nothing racist about this movie whatsoever.

Even if it could be considered racist, it's a reflection of a time in American history... Why hide it? Couldn't we argue that concealing the racist injustices of earlier generations is more damaging than openly seeing and discussing it? Maybe I'd feel differently if the acts and ideals in question were against my race.
