They are from Guangdong.
Guangdong is Guangdong and
Hong Kong is Hong Kong,
Before UK took away Hong Kong from China,Hong Kong had been in Guangdong province. So they both speak cantonese.
But,in mainland China,mandarine(chinese) is the official language,so the people there can both speak mandarine and cantonese.
cantonese is just the local dialect,China have hundreds of kinds of dialects,cantonese is just one kind in them.
