The video demonstrates Long Distance Live Migration with Microsoft Hyper-V achieved with the HP StorageWorks EVA or XP Disk Array. A similar demo was given to the bloggers that attended the HP StorageWorks Tech Day in Houston.

  • @kruff063 (Part 2 of answer) However, one could configure separate IP addresses in the VM (one available in one data center & one available in the other data center) and the clients could manually or automatically reconnect after migration. For migrations that would require clients to reconnect it would probably be faster to do a “quick migration” (also supported with this solution) rather than a Live Migration.

  • Does this also switch the IP address of the VM to the subnet in the target datacenter?

  • @kruff063 Here's what my engineer says: It does not switch IP addresses. Any Live Migration requires a single subnet or stretched VLAN for continuous connection from the client to the VM. If the IP addresses change between data centers the client would have to reconnect and it wouldn’t be a “live” migration. (See next comment for continuation of answer)
