Operation Crossroads was an atmospheric nuclear weapon test series conducted by the United States in the summer of 1946. The series consisted of two detonations, each with a yield of 21 kilotons: ABLE detonated at an altitude of 520 feet (158 m) on 1 July 1946; BAKER detonated 90 feet (27 m) underwater on 25 July 1946. A third planned burst, CHARLIE, was scrubbed after BAKER presented more radiological contamination than had been expected. The Crossroads tests were the fourth and fifth nuclear explosions (following the Trinity test and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki). It was the first nuclear test held in the Marshall Islands and the first to be publicly announced beforehand.

  • What crosses the film at 3:30?

  • this was a weather balloon for measuring the atmospheric pressure change in a nuclear blast event .

  • The material is a little bit dark !

And our German ship Prinz Eurgen was installed, yes.

  • well i will be upload soon the video again with the orginal sound. check in next days my video list out.

  • @MarioNY77 to the remix.

  • @Daddelgame I hope you're referring to the remix and not the actual song it's based on.

  • @puncheex: As a matter of fact, only 25% of the animals died of blast, thermal or radiation effects.

  • @puncheex Sure why not. We're King Midas in reverse anyhow as a species.

  • @6evorev6

Excellent reply my dear sir however you failed to touch on one topic of crucial importance, the FORCED removal of the local inhabitants off their land. No "ends justify the means".

If this Nuke test was SOOOO harmless, then I'm sure the USA could have done it on their own territory like off one of Hawaii's islands.

  • @puncheex: BTW, only 38% of the animals died in the test.

JM: Thanks for the information. I didn't know that.

  • @puncheex hmm... just FYI, mate : none of my bio informations are true.

it's totaly random, ergo i dont live there :]

nevertheless, where i live it's also 'fun' but it's a different kind of fun.

    cheers

  • @JetMechMA: I don't think the results of radiation were as well known as you may think they were. For example, there were a pair of goats on the Nevada, which was 1/3rd of a mile from center. One was tied to the deck, another was inside an armored turret. They both died from radiation poisoning from the blast gamma rays. While that would be expected for the exposed goat it was not expected for the other. BTW, only 38% of the animals died in the test.

  • @puncheex: The animals were there to form initial assessments on the blast,

JM: Yeah, like I said, any idiot could have easily deduced what was going to happen without burning to death helpless animals. As far as the affects of radiation, these were already well known. As far as being a meat eater, I would hope that they do quick humane kills. I support PETA in demanding humane treatment. No need for us to become monsters when killing our pray....is there? Well, is there?

  • @segregator236, Able, Baker, Trinity and Nagasaki (Fat Man) were all pretty much identical bombs.
