This video outlines some of the causes, signs and symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD, when gone untreated, can lead to such extremes as suicide.

If you, or someone you love, suffer from PTSD, or suspected PTSD, please see a counselor.

There are many on-line sites that can be researched for further information. You may also want to check at Medicine Net:

WARNING: This video includes graphic images from (1) Oklahoma City Bombing; (2) World Trade Center Attacks; (3) Omaha Beach, WWII; (4) Hue City, Vietnam War; and (5) a Police Officer Funeral.

The end message is one of hope. Those suffering from PTSD come from a variety of causes, including rape, combat, disasters - both natural and man made, and more.

The music is Ghosts, by Dan Fogelberg:

Sometimes in the night I feel it
Near as my next breath
and yet, untouchable
Silently the past comes
stealing
Like the taste of some forbidden
sweet.
Along the walls; in shadowed
rafters
Moving like a thought through
haunted atmospheres
Muted cries and echoed laughter
Banished dreams that never
sank in sleep.
Lost in love and
Found in reason
Questions that the mind can find
no answers for
Ghostly eyes
Conspire treason
As they gather just outside the door....
Every ghost that calls upon us
Brings another measure
in the mystery
Death is there
To keep us honest
And constantly remind us
we are free.
Down the ancient corridors
And through the gates of time
Run the ghosts of days
That we left behind.
Down the ancient corridors
And through the gates of time
Run the ghosts of dreams
That we left behind.
Sometimes in the night I feel it
Near as my next breath
and yet, untouchable
Silently the past comes
stealing
Like the taste of some forbidden
sweet.
Every ghost that calls upon us
Brings another measure
in the mystery
Death is there
To keep us honest
And constantly remind us
we are free.
Down the ancient corridors
And through the gates of time
Run the ghosts of days
That we left behind.

  • gosh i hate ptsd ive had it for 3 years and i can never get fucking help! the mental health centers keep failing me saying i dont qualify. dose any body know how hard it is to keep all uncontrollable emotions inside with out showing them? its so hard , its a curse and im sick of it, its horrible! fuckin flash backs! i hate it!

  • If you are military then they are obligated to help you with this. If they won't help, then contact a professional specializing in PTSD and see what they suggest to help you along. You need to find a way to let out your emotions and, at a minimum, talk to a friend about what you are going through. If you want to detail anything, please feel free to message me privately. Remember, you're not alone :)

  • wow. i know how hard this is. just recently i have been diagnosed with ptsd and depression. its hard sometimes. ive always had the symptoms since i was abt five. but recently they have lead me to cutting my self this isnt very healthy and so i got help and now im working with it once a week.

  • As you say ... "pain is just weakness leaving the body." It will take time and determination to move beyond the depression that comes from PTSD ... remember always you are not alone!!!

  • might i have PTSD? every symptom on there matchs me, but wouldent think i have PTSD...but the one thing that got me was "not being able to feel love or happiness" because i cant, people always call me psyco because i dont respond sadly to someone dieing...

the only thing so far ive expeireinced is i seen some chinese guy skin dogs alive...and they were still moving around with their skin off...could that give me PTSD? im joining the marines in a month also...could PTSD get worse after combat?

  • I'm not a psychologist; I am a critical incident stress manager and worked primarily with emergency services workers as peer support (incl. military). PTSD is a reaction to stress and some have a PTSD reaction to even a single incident. If you think you're matching a lot of the symptoms here, I'd urge you to talk to someone especially since combat situations can exasberate the condition. Thanks for wanting to serve our country! Keep well & stay safe!

  • @MiceElf2 You don't have to be military to have "PTSD." Iraq war combat vet here.
