Striper Fishing on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky in October, 2008 Part 1 of 2 with Eddie Tallent of the Tallent Guide Service filmed and edited by 25 Square Feet Productions
(cont) stripers love 'em. Troll too fast and your drown the little guys though. Lots of rods on planers with live bait locating them first with good electronics slowly...you should be good to go. Good tackle and heavy test line that won't break on you is a given. Some of them are big...like 30+ pounders and there is a limit of two per person and nothing less than 24" down there. So make 'em count. Start out early around 530am their time and find your spot. Talk with locals. Good Luck. Have Fun!
(cont) up shallow in 20' foot of water to cover yourself. Favorite spots are off any sloping rock point, any angular turns in a channel...you know...oddities in the water. Look for birds flying overhead feeding on injured bait fish...or for best results use electronics in locating the stripers cause they tend to move about allot in warm waters like now in August. Gotta locate them first in order to land them. Pick your live bait up just before you go out cause they don't live very long but(cont)
Hey batstarwars2...I don't fish artificial for stripers. I use "live" bait such as shiners, shad, chub and suckers for best results. Troll "slowly" say less than 1mph or you risk killing your bait fish. Troll them on "planer boards" so you can get quite a few rods out there. That way the planer rudder keep them going straight and they won't all converge together right behind the boat. Plus, it gives you more chances of landing some stripers. Fish deep say 45' in 90' water and lay some (cont)
Yup, and he knows Cumberland! Three times with Eddie (check out all my vids with Eddie) and we always finish up by 6:30 or 7am. Back in the marina and all filleted ready to head home an hour after pulling in. Beat all that heat that way:-D
I'm going down to Lake Cumberland for my 5th time next week, and I'm going to be bringing my fishing poles. I was wondering what you used for bait, or what lure you used?
