Matt DeVries: tenor saxophone

This is my impromptu rendition of the Thelonius Monk standard. I was bored over winter break and decided to record something. Sorry the recording quality isnt the best. Probably shouldn't have recorded it in the biggest room in my house. Its on my sister's digital camera and its the best I've got.

Please tell me what you think of my videos.

  • and when you play in blues, sometimes it would be best if u use the blues scale somewhere in ur solo. to establish that u are playing a blues

  • u have a nice sound so far but need to work a little bit of your technique. its good but when i listen to it its just lines to me. no emotion in it!!!! but still a nice sound

  • I learnt this song yesterday on Tenor....nice job!!

  • what is ur practise routine !

  • really good but sounds rushed for some reason :S

  • Good, really good!

  • great, another 5 stars. No wonder you made 1st tenor. Try and listen to some Richie Kamuca, Bill Perkins, Hank Mobley, Tina Brooks and Warne Marsh, you will like those too, lots on youtube. Less obvious than Getz, Rollins and Coltrane, but interesting

  • Amazing! Great tone, and great execution of ideas!

From a fellow Florida All State Jazz tenor player.

  • dude that was just awesome man!
