The 603 foot, 5,800 ton steamer hauled iron ore around the Great Lakes for 78 years. It was reported to be scrapped/recycled after hitting a concrete wall in Cleveland in Nov. 07. Reports of its demise seem to have been overstated. Taped today in Holland, MI on Lake Macatawa, just after delivering coal to the city owned power plant.

  • There was a different freighter named Calumet that is being scrapped in Port Colborne. The freighter was scheduled to be done after last season, but after she had the accident in Cleveland the company decided that would be it. The Calumet was the former Myron C. Taylor. This Calumet on the video is from the former Oglebay Norton fleet.

  • thx for the info, confusing the way they trade names around

  • yeah, the 1929 is better than the Wolverine freighter that took the former frieghters name.

  • Yeah, this one is a "River" Class. Traditional freighters are way more gracious than modern styled...

  • i still prefer the Calumet 1 over the new one that took her place.
