Russia-EU relations

Europe seems to be beset by problems these days. On the one hand the Lisbon Treaty, designed to shape the future of the EU, failed after Irish voters rejected it in a referendum. On the other, there is still uncertainty about the future of relations between Russia and the EU. How will the two sides negotiate a new strategic partnership? And what do they need from each other? The guests to answer these questions are Charles Grant and Timofey Bordachyov.

I think despite the obvious profits EU and Russia will get from their reunion, EU and Russia have first to think about the Russia's imperialistic conscienceness. Russia will not join EU with such attitude. However, just think the technology sharing (so not commercially used in Russia) in every field of science, space, military, cultural legacy sharing, resources, lands, resorts, geopolitics. A true hyperpower!

@ViriathusVingathor please don t get me wrong, I like to imagine all european united, but if it is true that the british are so against the EU, then they just need to get out (and without those benefits that the EU gives to neighbouring countries).

oh and when I say all european united I don t mean Federation united (I am not federalist but I get along well with federalists) :)

I tought I was alone! the "I could just vote for a politician that gets us out of the EU but I rather profit from it all and remain member of the EU and acuse them of being the Satan´s sleepover party and act as venom" british movement, as really went overboard. WE HAVE TO kick them out. being with them it´s like driving a car and have a hooligan punching you, after the accident the hooligan shouts: "you were the one driving".

it would be so cool if russia ever joined the eu. europe would be unstoppble. imagine europes money german engernearing and russian solders. lol its nice to dream.

Millions of people in the nations of Europe would celebrate if Russia threatened to nuke Brussels. Irish said no to Lisbon, French and Dutch both rejected an EU Commstitution. When will these political parasites learn that the people do not want a EU superstate and the three times, three nations have been asked in a democratic referendum, the answer has been no.

The Russians would simply let us destroy Moscow & do nothing in return?!? They'd destroy every city in Europe for revenge! You've really got to think these things through; every aspect and every possibility. Using a few statistics means nothing. As Disraeli said: "There are lies, damned lies and statistics". You can make them mean whatever you want them to mean. USA spends 24x as much as the whole of Western Europe does, on the defence of Western Europe. But they're leaving now. What do we do?

A trade ban on the UK would really hurt the EU. There's no need for it anyway. If the UK parliament would listen to its people; we would be gone. Never more to trouble you. PLEASE simply ask our government to give us a democratic vote. Then we will NEVER return. We'd save 112 Billion a year in "Membership fees" to begin with and be free of the EUs ridiculous laws and regulations. We long for our freedom back again. We were OK until UK politicians joined us to the EU which was then the EEC.
