Wrecking Crew NES: Getting the 1up on phase 1

This is how you acquire a 1up in Wrecking Crew, and this is how it's done on phase 1. Just collect all the letters that spell MARIO, in order. Not all phases have the 1up, and sometimes with the way some levels are set up you can't finish spelling it, as you may be unable to reach or return to certain floors.

In a 2 player game you can also spell LUIGI as the 2nd player, but you have to unearth the correct letter "I", not use the second I in place of the first. Absolutely, positively b.s.

I guess the 1up letters can be put into the edit mode as well, by pressing Up and B together. The location of these I am not yet certain..

Why hasn't anyone remade this? Well, they did make Wrecking Crew '98, but that's a really crappy Tetris-style game that was overdone by about 7 years.
