  • Sure is pretty but those of us in the know see this place differently. Those of us who had dads who worked for Olin will always have this place in our hearts - not as some upper income level real estate domicile but rather where we ran bare foot across the cinders up to the lake on those cool mornings for swimming lessons and again later in the day to swim. Note the three ladders at 2:43 - all that remains of the diving area. Boardwalk is in the same place though. I loved it there.

I was at Olin from 68 to 99 and I know what you mean. Now the mill is gone, Camp Straus is a housing development, and Brevard is a tourist town. Only the great memories are left...

  • does it snow like that every winter? moving there next year.

  • This was the first "good" snow since 2000. In the late 60s and early 70s, we often had three or more significant snows, but not anymore. We have had very dry springs and summers for a number of years, but that has now changed. Looks like we are swinging back to weather patterns of the 60s & 70s...

  • I trained here with my teammates as a member of the Brevard Cross Country and Track teams from 1988-90. I was hoping to wax nostalgic when uploading this video. Sadly, this is not the park we knew back then.

  • neighborhoods and looks so different. We went back this summer for 3 days, and I really remembered how much I disliked the place! lol anyway, thanks for the awesome video, you did a good job with the music and all!

  • wow, it does look pretty there. We were living in Pisgah Forest during all that snow. It looked beautiful but STUNK to shovel it all. I've only lived in the area for 2 years and love it. it may be a tourist town, but a MUCH smaller one than the one I'm from. if I could have moved here many years earlier, I would have!! I know what you mean about how different things are once everything starts developing. Where I grew up, we were surrounded by woods and cow pastures, but now, it's all ....

  • I grew up in Brevard..1972 to 1995.......No longer there now. We always had big snows growing up!

  • Wow, I Missed it !

I have a house in Brevard and hope to retire there in 5 years or sooner.

    Thanks, That was wonderfull
