Poverty In Zamboanga 2

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 06 Mar) A 12-year old Muslim boy tags his younger brother to beg for money and food in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines. He says he lives in the Muslim enclave of Rio Hondo, one of the poorest in Zamboanga, now branded by local politicians as Asia's Latin City, because of influence and culture left behind by Spaniards after occupying the Philippines.

The boy says he and is brother go out every morning and returns later in the night, when they is enough money to buy a kilo of rice. His father died a long time ago and his mother does the laundry and takes care of their shanty in the village.

Many Muslim villages in Zamboanga City have been neglected because most of the government projects are concentrated in Christian areas. Help does not come easy for people like them in the so-called Asia's Latin City.(Mindanao Examiner)

Hi Leo,

Have not seen the kids. I took this video outside the Wise Buy supermarket and since then have not seen him. But there are many kids in Zamboanga who are fighting each day to survive the harsh reality of being a poor.

I know dole-out is not the answer, but the situation sometimes calls for it. Poverty exists because there is not enough jobs for everybody.

How I wish we could help more of these poor children and we cannot wait for the government to act on these problems.

I am not working for the government, so I don't have any reason to lie about this video. I don't need to show that we gave the poor kids some foods and groceries. Helping others, especially the poor, is just a natural human act.

If you don't believe the video, then it's fine with us. We did not put this video to say that we are trying to do good deeds. The problem in Zamboanga is that politicians are themselves just showing off, they bring media every time they give little to the poor! What have you done?

salam... as i watch this video it crumples my heart im from zamboanga city camins... everytime i walk the streets of zamboanga and watch this poor people sleeps on the streets with thier little children i feel very pity for them.. i wish to help them.. but even i my self is in need of help.. financially but i wish this video would open the eyes of the politicians to put some attention on this poor children living on the streets.. wassalam.. julhamri09@yahoo.com

Muslims in southern Philippines must unite for JIHAD. Jihad against corrupt gov't officials and Philippine gov't to STOP discrimination on Muslim minority by majority or perhaps SELF DETERMINATION (ISLAMIC STATE). This is a hearthbreaking video. I am a mother and it's terrible to see a baby cries. Im sure he/she is hungry. Why do we have to wait for the politicians to help this people. Civilians can do something, i believe. Maybe we can build a foundation?
