this version is pretty bad-ass with how it builds up into, like a storm or something, starts out small, like a drizzle, then builds up into this collosal thing that blows you over

i think its about being judged at the end of your life for everything you've done in life. Like how your actions are all neatly wrapped up in a (in this case) videotape waiting for judgement from heaven or hell hence mephistopheles aka the bastard devil. i'm atheist but its still a cool idea

They mucked up the album version of videotape pretty bad and it just doesn't have the same climactic feel as this live version. Ironically i think most of them were just improving as they followed thom's lead.

This was the first of two sold out shows they were playing in Berkeley. I remember I driving 2 hours to sit in parking lot above the Greek Theatre. Soon after I got there it got dark, there must have been nearly 1000 people in the parking lot listening and watching the light show through the trees. It was awesome. Thank you for posting, this isn't just nostalgic, it is surreal.
