Awwww I feel bad for her. :( I hope she is much better now and you have it under control! :)

That's funny, because I was never told that asthma is common in Aby's, but I just took mine to the vet today (Dec 2, 2010) because of wheezing, and the vet said it was probably asthma. Until we can find a vet to do a trach scrape or whatever he called it, she is on oral liquid steroids for two weeks until mid Dec. I have tried to get her attacks on camera, but mine doesn't catch the sound very well...

it sounds like shes puking

my cat, about 2 years old now, does EXACTLY the same thing..he was responding to steroid shots but got one about a week ago and is not much better..taking him back tomorrow, may have to go on the inhaler..but he's worth it :)

There isn't anything you can do when a cat is having an asthma attack. Become more educated about a topic before putting someone down

My Abby does this too, did your vet put her on a puffer or any meds for it??

my mother'cat had asthma but the medication that was given to her caused renal failure and she died at the age of 14.

mine does that as well once in a while. I found out that dust in the air inside the home will cause it. I try to keep the cat fur and dust to a minimum. my mother's cat had asthma but the medication that was given to her caused renal failure and she died at the age of 14.

i loved my Abby Lola, she died two days ago of a stroke, she was only 9 years old, but she had this, the vet just passed it off, but i think it added to her stress level. its not a hairball
Well now I know what my abyssinian had. He did the same thing for years and no one could tell us why.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that your kitty died. I can tell you that Aby asthma not only looks like the video, but can also just be very labored breathing. I had Pennalynn (my Aby) in the vet's office just yesterday undergoing oxygen, steroid, and bronchiodialtor treatment. Apparently asthma is common in Abyssinians.
