I've been a huge old school =w=eezer fan since I can remember. They were one of the first bands to inspire me to pick up the instrument. The tones on the Blue Album especially were so pure and soulful that I was instantly attracted. The guitar solos were always thoughtful, melodic, honest and soaring. I always said to myself that Rivers had a little Brian May and 80's shred in him. The overtones and pinch harmonics he gets from his touch are perfect.

The guitar he used was ACTUALLY a Gibson LP Junior double-cut for the recording, but this guitar is modeled after the one INSIDE the Blue Album cover and the one he always toured with throughout the 90's with Weezer. I love this guitar and thank you to Rivers for the epic rock inspiration!

Guitar: Fender Blacktop Series Strat in Sonic Blue with tortoise pickguard, Seymour Duncan 59' Trembucker (bridge), DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell (neck) and a ProLine volume pot (500k). ohhhh and the lightning bolt strap!

Amp: Orange Rockerverb 100 thru Marshall 1960A

  • Looks awesome, you made one mistake though the neck pickup on the blue strat is a Dimarzio Super 2, the humbucker from hell was in the red strat that Jason gave Rivers. It was the inspiration for the sonic blue strat but the humbucker from hell only came in the red and yellow cover back when the sonic blue strat was made. Either way you still have a badass guitar.

I have the pickup combo in my Ibanez and I love it but I am also working on a River sonic blue strat. Such a awesome guitar.

  • @Nazereth666 yeah technically that is correct. I knew this going into it, but I read that the combo of those wasn't balanced. The neck pickup is super hot and not as articulate as H from H. And I figured since it was in that original Red special model, it's even MORE throwback. Plus, it came in cream, which back then it didn't, and now it completes the look of the guitar exactly even if it's not the same pickup. I prefer it's sound actually, because Rivers used P-90s in the Blue album.

  • @Nazereth666 and this H from Hell pickup is supposed to actually sound like a hot rodded single coil, it crunches REALLY well as you can hear in the video and does the Blue album stuff. The guitar is very versatile. It is still very ironic to me that the thing is called the Humbucker From Hell but it's supposed to sound like a single coil haha! I was picturing a forboding death metal tone lol

  • how much did it cost all up?

  • @chadfacedbear guitar itself stock was $450 then the mods were around $150 I believe?

  • Excellent video. Really helped give me a good idea of what my guitar will sound like once it gets back from the shop! Thanks for this video.

  • @ColorTheLifeline no prob. when you get yours post a vid as well, I'd love to hear it.

  • @ia5662 I would probably have two pickguards, one including the humbucker from hell and the other the Super 2. That is the nice thing about strats is there is only 3 wires you need to resolder to swap out a complete pickguard and have a new pickup configuration.

  • You are awesome!!! Getting a Rivers tribute guitar has been on my list of to dos for such a while now. Cool playing, too.

  • I can't decide which I like more, this or the Scott Shriner era SG.

  • @pinoyviper no the beauty of this guitar is it's already routed for humbuckers, so other than buying the new pickguard and a new volume pot (personal preference) then you're good to go. Oh and of course don't forget the lightning bolt strap lol

  • @liligman just the solos in Buddy Holly
