The engine probably isn't overheating—it runs hot. The temp gauge will frequently get up to the 3/4 mark. This is normal. That engine should go 1million miles. You should still flush the coolant and maybe replace the rad though, and make sure the electric fan is working.

I had an 85 900 8v 5spd too. Great car. Took me everywhere from Fla. to Calif. and all kinds of places inbetween. Power was lacking though—had to downshift to 2nd to get through the mountains west of Denver.

They're not so difficult to find :) Close to 1 million of the 1st gen 900 were made.
Also the 2nd gen is amazingly cheap nowadays.

The first car I bought new was a 1985 Saab 900. Cost me just over 10K as I recall. 5-speed, great car -- only problems were the AC and the glue on the headliner, door fabric and glove box tended to give way. Would love to find another one some day.

Ironically, that's my problem now.
The engine is overheating alot and just about to roll over and die, so I'm trying to sell it and if nothing else sell it to the junkyard.
