Memories of this brought a tear to an old army sweat while on active service in the Middle East during the early 50's

@PalaniRides I love Slim Whitman's version of this song, but it was not originally written as C&W. It dates from 1941 and was composed as a ballad by Victor Schertzinger (the music) and Johnny Mercer (the lyric). During the '40s it was recorded by many pop stars. Several versions are available on YouTube.

@tarquin45 So Frank's version with the Norrie Parramore orchestra was indeed the original arrangement??? I recall it was #35 one week in the top 40, and #1 the next. I'll try to do some research on Slim Whitman's discography. Ifield had a purple patch of hits and they were big sellers in Australia.

You learn something everyday. I always thought Frank Ifield's version in Aug 1962 was an original arrangement. Apparently not so if this was recorded in the early 1950's

Cannot be duplicated!!! Awesome voice and song!
My first love taught me how to dance to this this very tune in 1960; How prophetic. I will remember her when I recall the thrill of it all when my life is through too.
