New Multimedia Kiosk at Pennsylvania Welcome Center Encourages
Visitors to Turn off the Highway and Explore Lake Erie Grape and Wine Region..."Ride a grape picker," "Smell the grapes," "Tour a winery," and "Taste the goodness" are among the many virtual experiences available from the touchscreen, which sits atop a 55-gallon wine barrel made from Pennsylvania oak. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center, which opened in 2006, is located on I-90 westbound, one-half mile west of the Pennsylvania New York border in North East, Pa. The most spectacular feature of the $5.3 million, 8,500-square-foot facility is its wall-to-wall windows, which look out over vast stretches of vineyards and Lake Erie. According to PennDOT, in 2010 the Welcome Center served a total of 308,365 people making it the third most visited Welcome Center in the state.

Hundreds of thousands of motorists who drive into Pennsylvania from New York every year will get a first-hand look inside Lake Erie's grape and wine region with the arrival of a new touchscreen kiosk at the Pennsylvania Welcome Center on I-90 in North East. This 3 minute video is an example of what can be viewed at the kiosk display.

"Ride a grape picker," "Smell the grapes," "Tour a winery," and "Taste the goodness" are among the many virtual experiences available from the touchscreen, which sits atop a 55-gallon wine barrel made from Pennsylvania oak.

The interactive exhibit, supported with a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, connects visitors in a direct, engaging and unforgettable way, enticing them to stay longer and explore what is now the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies and the largest Concord grape growing region in the world. Information about other regional attractions and accommodations is also included.
