This is a point control drill where you practice hitting tennis balls suspended on a string.

It is also demonstrates how a well balanced longsword is almost as good as a rapier in point control. The Rapier in this vid weighs 2 lb 6 oz and is aporx 47 inches long. The longsword is 54.5 inches and weighs 4 lbs. This is very long and heavy for a longsword. Most are 42 inches and weigh 3 lbs. However because all that weight is in the hilt and the blade is tapered, it is very manageable.

Subsequent to this video I did decide to remove the schilt and cut 3 inches off the tip. I just got tired of training with the heavier sword and reduced its weight to 3lbs 8oz.

  • I love thrusting

did a little fencing practice - greatly impoved my heavy fighting

  • I do heavy fighting too. The footwork from fencing and the well established concepts of closing off lines of attak transfers well to heavy fighting.

  • Interesting video. Are you right handed or left handed?

  • I am right handed but I can fence just as good left handed. My primary form is "case" (two rapiers).

  • you might be in the SCA...i dunno..hahah can you make a video tutorial on how to tip a rapier? you know the little plastic thing at the end...PLEASE MAKE A TUTORIAL ON HOW TO TIP I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

  • Tipping it is real easy. You buy a rubber tip. The are cheap. You can order from Zen Warrior. Not listed on their site so just call them. Don't buy their rapiers, they suck. You put a small washer inside the tip so the blade does not punch through. You then tape it down with electric tape onto the blade.
