Rare! Brilliant double-sider from 1970 from this mysterious Dutch combo. Morton & the Uptights were
an offshoot of the J.J.Band, led by none other than cult legend Scott Bradford, and featuring Belgian
jazz great Philippe Catherine on guitar! The music is really amazing, a mixture of Ska & jazzy soul with a groovy & funky latino rhythm section.
First up there's "Montego" and what you get is a ska flavoured groove (written by Scott
Bradford) that sounds like the slightly demented lost Jamaican cousin of Mulatu of Ethiopia, with a
really raw sound, pounding piano, great percussion & skanking horns. Over on the flip, the hypnotic
"Taurus" awaits, same deal - Scott Bradford penned, but slightly more laid back and very funky, a
steady, driving groove, brilliant eastern-hued horns and just a general feeling of exotic wonder!
