As part of our history of basketball series, we present a comparison of the 3rd Option from Kansas State in 1964 and the Lakers in 2009. Pretty remarkable that the offense has not changed a bit.

  • One big difference is how much slower the modern version is. NBA players today are not going to go 100% in the first quarter of regular season games like they used to back in the old days.

  • @willardjfilmore Yeah - a real shame. It looks great when guys are cutting hard, making back door cuts, setting their man up properly. The Bulls of 95-96 used to average 5 passes a possession - unheard of now. Have you seen our latest posts? A cool breakdown of the 1962 All Star Game, plus a bBULLbreakdown coming up soon!

That is true - in "Blind Pig" - the guard on top is supposed to cut back door. However, the triangle also allows players to maximize their talents - and DFish must miss at least one lay up every game. I think we'd all rather see him fade to the wing for a 3 instead...

  • big difference i see is that the k state man at the top of the key makes the backdoor cut to the basket, but derek fisher just clears out to the wing

  • damn
