{Doctor:}

He seems to be completely unreceptive.
The tests I gave him show no sense at all.
His eyes react to light the dials detect it.
He hears but cannot answer to your call.

{Tommy:}

See me, feel me, touch me, heal me.
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me.

{Doctor:}

There is no chance no untried operation.
All hope lies with him and none with me.
Imagine though the shock from isolation.
When he suddenly can hear and speak and see.

{Tommy:}

See me, feel me, touch me, heal me.
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me.

{Doctor:}

His eyes can hear
his ears can see his lips speak
All the time the needles flick and rock.
No machine can give the kind of stimulation,
Needed to remove his inner block.

{Father:}

I often wonder what he's feeling.
Has he ever heard a word I've said?
Look at him now in the mirror dreaming
What is happening in his head?

What is happening in his head?
I wish I knew, I wish I knew.

    "That dad" is Oliver Reed, one of the baddest-assed actors of his generation. He was an intensely charasmatic dude, but he was hard core craaaaazeeee. He died of a heart attack--the day after a night of partying-- downing three bottles of rum, beating three sailors at arm wrestling...oh yea, and he was 61.

    dude, As an 11 year old child i listened to Tommy by The Who back in the early seventies and fell in love with this wonderful rock opera. When the movie came out i was so happy to see it... i felt let down and nauseated because the songs were altered to fit the acting and it upset and saddened me. Now that im much older, i just laugh at how cheesey , and low budget, lousey special effects it has but it actually amuses me. So get over yourself....

    I totally disagree with you. While it took many liberties in art direction and stylistic changes to the music, it was well done for its time. The only reason that I was introduced to The Who was because of this movie. So that is a huge WIN. Besides, the Who adapted this movie on their own terms. They were behind the production, they adjusted the music and also starred in it. It's their music and it was their decision to make it. So get over yourself.

    I strongly disagree. The film made more sense than the album and has a lot of layers and deep meanings, not to mention Ann-Margret's Oscar nominated performance - but I do love both versions of the material. It's cool that you don't like it - It isn't for all tastes.

    How so? I think Russell's film is brilliant beyond words.

    Jack is one of my favorite actors but when he's in a flick with Ann-Margret he becomes just another supporting actor. By contrast Ann Margret stirs my testosterone to stratospheric levels. I'll never forget how utterly gorgeous she looked in this movie and then again in Grumpy old men 18 years after this movie was made in 1975. To my mind she is a female legend.

    Jack Nicholson and Ann-Margret reunite from Carnal Knowledge. Where's Candice Bergen to complete the "Ballbusters on Parade"? And Art Garfunkel's classic line, "You can't make screwing your life's work."
