A truly epic film. I don't think Australia received the appreciation it so richly deserved here in the U.S. I was truly surprised when it didn't win an Oscar for best picture. Also surprising and disappointing was the fact that Hugh and Nicole did not receive any awards for their roles in the movie. I am really ashamed of our U.S. critics for not giving it more positive praise. I own the dvd and watch it at least twice a week or more. I love every minute of it.

What this movie makes interest is that young actor Brandon Walters - Nullah and te Aboriginal culture. I'm from Europe and I never heard of 'walkabout'. This movie kind of inspired me to read about Aborigines. And they really have an old enriched culture. Pity how white ppl treated them. I hope at least they will do smth for Brandon, since he deserves it! HE did a great job!

Crickey - cultural cringe?! God, what about all the Aboriginal Australian stereotypes, exoticism, and mysticism that are endorsed in the film?? That's a lot more of a cultural cringe if you ask me.
