half-fiction/halfreal song about jim crow a negro/indian who died for the freedom and humanity as hated by the 'white caps'... but his ghost lives again...
words and music by Ramblin' Wayn Pieters v. Rijsselt from the album 'DOWN THAT HARD LINE'
2000 (c) for Ramblinmusic & JPmusic

JIM CROW
Jim Crow was born on a mountain,
his daddy was a black preacher son
His mother came from the Cherokee nation,
Jimmy rode them horses very young
At the age of 15, Lord he joined a rodeo
He was the star of the show
But he was just a negro Indian
with curly hair alike his daddy Joe

chorus:
Last night they took Jim Crow upon a mountain
nailed him to a cross and lay the fire on him
Last night a piece of America was-a-dying
But the ghost of Jim Crow lives again

Jim Crow felt in love with sweet Talitha
they raised children 1,2,3
They got the dark eyes of the Negro
and that ole Cherokee belief

Than the put Jim Crow into the army
like a slave he fought in Vietnam
He lost both his legs, he lost his eyesight
No longer Jim Crow was a man

Last night they took Jim Crow upon a mountain
They nailed him t a cross and put the fire on him
Last night a piece of AMERICA was-a-dyin'
But the Ghost of JIm Crow lives again

Jim Crow became a politician
fighting for the rights of Indians and Blacks
Fighting for the working man out on the streets
but he enemy's they wearing white caps

Late at night when that moon is a bright shining
Talitha kneeling down at his grave
Her eyes are filled with bitterness and sorrow
for her lover Jim Crow was a social slave

Last nigt they took Jim Crow upon a mountain
Nailed him to a cross and layed the fire on him
Last nigt A piece of America was-a-dying
But the ghost of Jim Crow lives again

  • great song wayn! your a very gifted song writer. very versital in stylings also. i get a kind of townes van zandt spirit from this tune it remindes me of "my proud mountains my home is colorado", for some reason even though it does'nt sound a bit like it. but it has that same lonesome style. anyways, nice tune and as always great interpretation.
