Kirkuk is historically a Turkman city

Historically Kirkuk is a Turkmen city: In the census in 1957, of city's population consisted of Turkmens, 58 % Arabs, 29 % kurds, 10 %-3 and other ethnic groups. In other words, it is not the Kurds but the Turkmens who suffered most by Saddam's Arabization policies in the city. Pressures on Turkmens incrementally increased both in Sadddam's period and later. Turkmens were forced to leave the city and the region as a result of terror and intimidation policies aiming at them. Since April 2003, Kurdish regional government have brought more than 600 thousand Kurds and settled them in the city to change the ethnical composition to the benefit of Kurds. The objective is to obtain a favourable result in the referendum due in late 2007. Kurdish intimidation practices, including terrorism, are directed to Turkmens and Arabs and still continue at all means and dimensions.

@KerkukTurkmeneli kirkuk has been a kurdish city for 5000 years, it was made by assyrians who later the medians(kurds) took in the war they won against assyrians, later the hurrian(kurdish) empire expanded it.
