I just can't help but note a dislike to Canon cameras. True the Nikon has better dynamic range, color depth and high ISO quality but you're comparing apples to oranges when you compare it to the 7D, the 7D runs circles around the D7000 in ergonomics, speed and action photography. The same goes for the t2i, different price range, different target consumers. Why not compare the D7000 with the Pentax K5, same price range, same target consumers.

@joeynuggetz Seen quite a lot of camera labs reviews and he is always in favour of Canon. The review of the Nikon D7000 wasn't great but if it does what you want it to, then great. I think Canon and Nikon do great jobs for different things and if I had the money for both I would buy both.

@wadermanuk I think the the D7000 should be considered a pro or semi-pro camera. It meets or exceeds some previous pro cameras and just because tech improves doesn't make an old pro a non-pro.

@srandallthomas I bought the D200 when it was first released and at the time thought it was great. I now own the D3 and the D7000. I mainly use the D7000 now and get great results along with my pro glass. The images are of a pro quality and should be given that status. It makes me wonder what specs the next Nikon cameras will have.

You have to work for Nikon, you have no cons at all? Really? There is nothing at all you dislike about the Nikon? Being a prosumer/consumer model its perfect all around? Nikon should bring all their pro bodies down to what this D7000 is?

@kalison08 - Obviously price factors in. Sure, I'd love the D3s sensor, but we're talking about exactly what you said... a prosumer model. Hence, no. I have no cons. For the price, and the level of camera that the D7000 is, it's excellent.

More objective reviews would be more useful for others. Do you work for Nikon?
MandrakeCigars 1 year ago
@MandrakeCigars - LOL... no, I don't work for Nikon. I'm a professional photographer who buys his gear like everyone else. I think I was pretty objective. There really is nothing to complain about on the Nikon D7000. Without questions, the D7000 is the best DSLR out there for the money.

No cons? Are you being objective? The AF in video is below average. Kudos for Nikon for getting this implemented first but it's slow and very mistake prone. Also that AF in video is very noisy and distracting. AF in video is very young in DSLRs and there is much work to be done to make it acceptable every day use.
Another negative is it is too light. Most pro lenses will make it feel unbalanced and front heavy. Also for people with bigger hands the 7D will feel much more comfortable.

@MandrakeCigars - Yes, the AF-F continous video focus isn't great, but since it's new technology that currently only Nikon offers, I'm not slamming them for it. I'm sure it will improve over time, but at least Nikon gave us the feature. No one else has.
