But situps don't actually burn fat. They burn sugar. Your abs and stomach hurt after doing situps because the burned sugar waste can't be removed quickly enough from the muscle. It's a poor way of trying to loose weight, but good for toning muscle.
You burn fat by burning more calories than you take in. You help this process by performing cardio like running and bicycling. Sit ups are anaerobic exercise, meaning without Oxygen. Your just strengthen the muscles so that when you do loose fat by doing cardio, you will have abs that will be visible. In order to be burning fat while doing situps, you would have to do like 200 situps a minute to increase your heart rate enough so that enough Oxygen is being delivered to burn fat.
Run half an hour after you wake up, most days (I do 5-7 times per day). It's the best time of the day for burning fat. Don't eat any shit either, or you may not lose much. Situps are really good for toning up, which can make everything nice and tight. Running and situps go well together, it works for me.
