The German War Files - Bombers And Bombing Raids 1939-1942
The German Luftwaffe entered the Second World War with the world's most effective bomber force, built around the Heinkel He-111 and Dornier D0-17 medium bombers, and the new Junkers Ju-88 'Schnellbomber'.

From its outset, the new Luftwaffe was planned as a tactical instrument, designed to provide air support to the army in what was assumed would be a short war.

In this programme, which covers combat operations from North Africa through to Northern Norway and the Atlantic approaches to the Battle of Stalingrad, the role of the Luftwaffe's bombing in the period of Germany's military expansion between 1939 and 1942 is told by employing dramatic and graphic footage.
