Some of you may have noticed that DeafRead isn't publishing posts by bvloggers 18 years of age and younger. This is for the teens' protection.
As we stated months ago, we are expanding DeafRead into a separate branch showing posts by those 18 years and younger. DeafRead is currently banned in several schools, which isn't conductive to the deaf students' learning environment because for many of them, schools are the only places they can access the internet. We do not want to deny them fair access to other student vlogs.
We believe that student vlogs are important in raising the quality of deaf people's lives. Children and teenagers living in isolated parts of the country can learn from and interact with other students on a national level. It's like a summer camp that never closes.
Posts created by teenagers will still appear on DeafRead—but only with parental consent. If you grant your child permission for their posts to be shown on DeafRead, e-mail me at tmayer@deafread.com.
It is DeafRead's hope to successfully build DeafRead Teens in a way schools everywhere will see its great benefits and ultimately allow it on their network. Lastly, it would be beyond our dreams if schools took the extra step and encouraged their students to create bvlogs inside their schools.
