I did the same thing, only I used a few different grits of sandpaper and emery paper (up to 3000 grit) then rubbing compound and jeweler's rouge. For the last 2, I used a foam disc attachment for my drill (lower rpms means no burns hehehe). They're fading out pretty fast though, because I didn't put UV coating back on. Will do that next time.

My headlights are really crappy, and a lot of other Jettas have that faded look as well. I'll try this method to see if it works. Thanks,
