The Fontane Sisters were a sibling trio (Bea, Geri and Marge Rosse) from New Milford, New Jersey who first gained recognition from being featured on Perry Como's radio and television shows. They also did backup on some of Como's recordings until they signed with Dot Records in 1954. Over the next six years they had 18 songs hit the Billboard Hot 100 and ten in the top 40. They retired from the recording business in 1961 prefering private life to the grind of touring and mixing with the new rock 'n' roll members of the music scene.
All three are deceased: Geri in 1993, Bea in 2002 and Marge in 2003.

  • Cant hold a candle to to Otis Williams and the Charms IMO

  • @srercrcr Steve, I can hardly believe that until your comment I had never heard the rendition you cite. So I listened to it, and though I still think the Fontane's did a fine version as is attested by their also hitting #1 on the charts, I tend to agree that Otis W. and the Charms did a truly rich and better developed vocalization of the song. However, music being so subjective, I'm sure there are those who will always prefer one version over another of any song. :-)

  • @senilitysux66 What a lovely comment. I love positive people

  • @srercrcr Ahh, thank you, Steve. I try to be. May you and your's have a wonderful holiday season and new year. <:o)

  • how did you spell FONTANE? Fontaine?

    ive seen it both ways............

  • Well, I can only cite you to their recordings on which it's always spelled 'Fontane'. I honestly don't know if the spelling was changed as some names were/are for various reasons, but since the pronunciation would be the same I'd rather doubt it. I thank you for stopping by and wish I could give a more definitive answer. :o)

  • I wonder whether this song is considered to be R & R or just some pop song. 1955 was a pivotable year for pop when rock 'n roll was getting started.....I was about 13 yrs. old that year.

  • about the time this was a hit there was song with lyrics like this;,"let the wind and the rain hit the windowpane,I wont complain anymore, let the snow and the sleet cover up your street,my feet will find your door" I think the title was possibly "Now that I'm in love" somebody help me with this..thanks

  • This hit by The Fontane Sisters hit #1 on the Top 40 charts and finished at #15 for the year, 1955. 1955; the year that the music scene changed forever. On July 9, Bill Haley and His Comets hit #1 with Rock Around the Clock, signifying the start of the Rock Era.

  • Fantastic for ever!

  • dick continos in one of those pictures

  • To all you San Diego State Aztecs fans and Carolina Panthers fans (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when John Fox came into the world (February 8, 1955). The start of the Rock Era was on the horizon during this time.
