Sinister sect used child abuse as enlightment

In a Central Russian city, a group claiming to be a self-improvement foundation is at the center of allegations of performing sex acts which were witnessed by children. The group, dubbed a sect, has been operating for many years and claimed it could help anyone who wanted to develop emotionally and spiritually.

At the particular point in Jesus' ministry you are talking about, the Jewish leaders were tying to entrap Christ as it was becoming clear the He was not going to be the type of messiah they were hoping for. The trick was: if He rejected the taxes they could report Him to the Romans as fomenting rebellion, in the other case He would be seen as supporting the oppressors. He said to go ahead & pay the taxes as this does not impose on your spiritual freedom.
