I remember having this on a cassette with some other rare gospel and inspirational songs from the 80's. Good song to remember on the eve of Mandela's 93rd Birthday.

It caused controversy because people were actually requesting and dancing to it in the clubs. I can recall as a child a neighbor stating they would put their drinks down just to get up and dance whenever it was played. LOL

My Mom said this song caused alot of controversey in the mid 80's similar to the God In Me by Mary Mar now. Alot of Church people felt the song was too R&B ish Gospel. I for one love traditional gospel but also love Contemporary and this is one of my favorite songs.

@86pimp3 What this song did was bring Gospel to the mainstream. I think Shackles by Mary Mary did it for the newer generation. These songs are important...it reminds us where it all started.

@86pimp3 difference is althought this song had a comtempary sound. The lyric and theme is very deep and serious. No offense, but Mary Mary is about "me" and materialism. This song is saturated with a strong message of protest and inequality.
