STORY 1: MANANG MANI

Lolita Lazaro is a 60 -year old woman with 5 kids. She has spent the earlier part of her life peddling in the different schools in Baguio City until she decided to settle and put up a kariton outside of the UP campus where she would be fondly called later on as MANANG MANI. According to students, the UP Baguio experience would not be complete without MANANG Mani. She is dear to the hearts of the students, more especially to the less privileged kids. Why? Because though she doesnt own much financially, she manages to help them in their time of need. Most of them recall at one point they asked her to loan them money for baon and pamasahe. She never did make lista any of those. She didnt mind if they ever paid. According to her, shes glad to have helped. She never had a degree and being of help to these kids who are trying to earn their degree for a brighter future makes her happy. Through selling peanuts outside the campus, she was able to send all her kids to school and it brings a smile on her face to be able to give a little help to other kids too. She is so loved by the students that they protested against the university when the management threatened to let MANANG MANI leave her corner. She is to them a simple person, their simple hero.

STORY 2- KARYLLE

KARYLLE is known a Zsa Za Padillas daughter, a beautiful face, a singer and an actress. But inside of this beauty is a brighter light defeating the stage spotlightIts the radiance of a very good heart.

Since she was in High School, Karylle developed the habit of helping out in different foundations she can get involved in. Each birthday she has, she chooses to celebrate with a foundation that supports various causes; cancer, homeless kids and this year- battered women.

For the orphans at WHITE CROSS, Ate Karylle is their personal hero. She makes them happy and she actually has had some improvements done in the orphanage. Bathroom and dorm renovations etc. and she takes some time out of her busy schedule to visit the kids and sing to them. She does this why? Not for publicity but because its who she is as a person Shes been blessed with much and she just wants to share her blessings.
