Decided to change the original white LED on my Dell Inspiron Mini 10 for a more subtle green one.

  • Awesome tutorial. I have a few questions though--what was that wrap you were protecting the other led with? What size was the soldering tip and about how hot do you want it to be?

Thanks a ton. My project is similar, except I've cracked the multi-color charging led on my aspire one, so I need to flip a new one on there.

  • @sophisticatedleaf Hi, and thanks for your kind feedback. The gold coloured protective tape is called 'Kapton tape', it's a high temperature type tape that is great for protecting nearby components from the heat. Soldering Iron tip size is 0.8mm and tip temp was 330*C

    Hope your project goes well.

    Regards

    John

  • @blackmesa25 Thanks for subbing mate. The LED thing is a great innit, (as well as the old flybacks and microwave transformers etc.) Seems to be a lot of guys on YT who are into this sort of stuff. I'm new to the flyback thing but I'm picking it up ok. I just glued one up last night as it was arcing terrible around it's terminals, seems fine now though after a dose of industrial hot glue :)

    Cheers mate
