Vancouver's newest public party and protest space is Jack Poole Plaza with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic cauldron as the centrepiece. In the shadow of the cauldron, the Poverty Olympics torch was passed to London, host of the 2012 Summer Games. Meanwhile, crews installed a surveillance camera under the cauldron. Vancouver 2010 was nicknamed the "Surveillance Games" by a Queen's University professor because nearly 1,000 cameras were set-up by the $900 million security force.
