I would really recommend to read the article about this particular Mickey's role I found on net...it's not really article, it's a little beautiful story that pretty much illustrated exactly what I felt when I saw these episodes.

Rourke can communicate so much with just a few words and gestures.  Just from this 1:30 min clip you can get a real feel and sympathy for this character - a prisoner inside his body, which is inside a prison .... many layers of hell.

Mickey had little time to prepare for this role. So, in order to really get into the character fast, he was all dressed like that, make-up and everything, on the frigging plane that took him to the set. A little boy sitting close to him burst into tears when he saw him.
