This year my father passed away. He had been suffering from Motor Neuron disease (MND).

He was a kind, generous and gentle man who maintained his dry sense of humour and concern for others even when stricken with this cruel disease.

He loved sailing, classical music, opera and had an insatiable appetite for reading. He, like me, was especially fond of the works of Dylan Thomas, which is why I have added Richard Burton reading Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night a poem Thomas wrote when his own Farther was ill and dying. I have taken some liberties with the recording by cutting it up and setting it to music .. Apologies to the purists.

  • Very touching, great thing to tribut your father.

btw. what's the name of the song at the background??

    Still like the music (Y)

  • @Mockingbirde It's 'Death Shall Have No Dominion' by Cliff Martinez. from the soundtrack to 'Solaris'

  • what is Motor Neuron disease?

  • Its a degenerative muscle wasting disease that eventually leads to complete loss of motor functions including speech. Mentally, the sufferer is unaffected. Fortunately for my Dad, he died before he had lost his speech and whilst he still had a limited amount of mobility. The disease has no known cure and its cause is still unknown. The sufferer usually dies within 1 -5 years from being diagnosed although Steven Hawkins, an MND sufferer, has famously survived for many years.

  • Your film show that your father's light did not die.

  • It sounds like Lou Gehrig's Disease. Really a class of diseases for which there is no cure. He looks happy enough before he died. The best we can hope for is a relatively happy death. God bless.

  • @kemoslicer2419 Cause that made alot of sense... what has Rest In Peace got to do with laughing about somebody dying?... There being respectful.

  • Very moving tribute! How much you love your father! I did too; I still mourn him, fifty years after his death from cancer. We both have something in common: we are the children of admirable men. Superb choice of poem, perfect choice of images. Thanks!
