Los Angeles, California Nearly a year after her debut solo release, Self Contained, Avis Harrell returns with Ill Be Here When You Return, a deluxe single release dedicated to the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The smooth mid-tempo ballad is paired with Harrells take on America The Beautiful, a song Harrell recorded as a Raelette with Ray Charles. Ill Be Here When You Return is inspired by Wish You Were Here With Me, a Vietnam-era ballad Harrell performed with her sisters as The Fawns. Wish You Were Here With Me became an underground soul classic, telling a story of a young womans devotion to her lover overseas fighting the war and is still being played today on local stations in Washington D.C. Harrell revisits the theme with a slightly more mature groove. The vibraphone shades on Ill Be Here When You Return offer a subtle tribute to Wish You Were Here With Me.

Her recording of America The Beautiful offers full gospel fervor with a contemporary edge to the song whose definitive rendition was recorded by her former boss and mentor, Ray Charles. The song is Harrells tip of the hat to her time with Ray Charles. Once again, she has arranged, played & produce a project that Im sure will be enjoyed for years to come.

I had not watched the full video until today, it was long, but it was worth it. Thank god for talent, the Memorial Day clips for the troops, was special. Then to go on and show your performances with Ray Charles, and Wayne Newton, really shows your blessed experiences performing and doing music. The cover of Nancy Wilson's, "Get here", was tastefull, and the cover of Tina Turner's, "Rollin' on the the river", let's just say Tina would be proud!

Loved seeing your comment about Ray being your inspiration, your ex-boss, your mentor on one of the America the Beautiful videos.

Although I miss Ray as much as you do, I managed to hold it together until I saw videos of fireworks displays in various states while Ray's rendition of America the Beautiful was being broadcast to the crowd. Then I lost it and couldn't stop the tears.

You are beautiful inside and out, and blessed with great talent.
