Yesterday afternoon at around 3:15 p.m. a big rig transporting cars had a reported malfunction, collided with another car on the freeway and crashed into a support column of the Hatch Rd. overpass in the center divide of the freeway.
The big rig caught fire after the crash and several of the cars that were on the rig fell onto the freeway. 3 people were hospitalized due to the collision with non life threatening injuries.
Modesto News .org went to the scene to film the extensive cleanup operation by Cal-Trans. Cal-Trans workers were called in from as far away as Merced and Stockton, California to remove debris, rebuild the center divide and to check on the structural stability of the overpass.
A Cal-Trans supervisor at the scene told Modesto News .org that they expected to be working on this situation well into the next morning.
