I feel what you are saying but ask yourself, would it have been easier on you if she had left as opposed to him leaving?

I don't want to be harsh but its life, deal with it and man up. It hurts, but think about it this way, who knows if he were like that maybe its better you never knew him.

Thanks for your response. I suppose the situation wouldn't have been that different if it was my mom who left me instead of my father. I understand, in a way it really shouldn't matter if I get the chance to know him or not. I still wonder what his reason(s) for leaving though because I deserve some type of closure after all these years.

it wouldn't make a difference who left who, they should still be a part of thier childs life unless they were abusive!!

These are painful questions. I do not even think you should have closure. As hard as it is continue to be productive, and if you do meet him, accept what comes out of said meeting for what its worth. Set boundaries and parameters, but don't try to rehash the past. This is real life not a talk show. Sometimes parents pop up after decades and expect their kids to worship and adore them. Be blessed my brother.
